Jenny graduated with a Bachelor of Accounting at Central Queensland University in 2009. She started off working as an intern accountant for Yates Security in the weekdays and a barista at Swagmans Cafe in The Rocks on the weekends.
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
A year later, she found the internship boring and left, spending the next two months holidaying in Vietnam. When she came back, her old boss at Swagmans called and wanted her back. This time it was full time and came with a great salary package! With that, she returned to working at the busy cafe as head barista for the next 2 years.
One time, as Jenny was cleaning the Ruby Juicer machine at the end of the day, she observed all the corporate ladies walking by outside the window and had a vision. She no longer saw herself wearing plain, black cafe uniforms and instead wanted to don skirts and high heels just like them.
Jenny with her Westpac colleagues (2013)
Jenny entered the finance world and received a job at Westpac in 2012. Her role started off as a bank teller at the Westfield Liverpool branch. Shortly after, she was promoted to personal banker at their Cabramatta branch and was there for the next 2 years. However, she found the management to be conflicting against her values and so she left in 2014.
Jenny wanted to return to the hospitality industry but this time as an owner. From her time at Swagmans, she realised how she always loved making great coffee for herself and wanted to share this passion to others. In late 2014, she opened Calypso with her husband. This is her story.
