Our small business is located in Matraville, a south-eastern suburb of Sydney. Once known as a lower socioeconomic area in the eastern suburbs, Matraville has since transformed into one of the most affluent neighborhoods.
We took over the business from the original owners, Blake and Lucy, who ran it for a year under the name Calypso Juice Bar. In 2015, we renamed it Calypso Cafe & Juice Bar to better reflect the full range of what we offer.
A New Journey in Hospitality
When I started, I had zero knowledge of hospitality and cafe operations. My background was in community pharmacy, where I worked for five years, so this was a completely new world. The early mornings, the hands-on physical work, and the constant learning curve were all eye-opening.
Sharing My Journey
My goal in writing these blogs is to share my experiences as a cafe owner and operator over the past five years. I want to provide insights into the industry, sharing the best discoveries that have improved our cafe operations by up to tenfold.
On top of that, I’ll reveal the things I wish someone had taught me at the start — lessons that would have saved me significant time and stress.
